Amber Chaplains meet women where they are: on the streets, working in massage parlours and in the sexual entertainment industry in strip clubs.
Our outreach team meet women on the streets of Southampton twice weekly offering a listening ear, emotional and practical support, signposting and prayer. We also give out essential health gift bags containing condoms, a personal attack alarm, toiletries, snacks and an encouragement. We offer to meet for a coffee and chat and we signpost to appropriate services such as the Sexual Health Clinic, Drug Service and the Homeless Healthcare Team. These women are some of the most marginalised and vulnerable in our city suffering multiple disadvantages including isolation, poor mental and physical health, drug and alcohol addiction, unstable housing and estranged from family. We want them to experience good health, be safe and well.
Our parlour outreach to Thai and Chinese women offers support and prayer along with a goodie bag. We have a volunteer Thai and Chinese translator to help conversation with any language and cultural barriers that exist.
Our chaplaincy to the strip clubs in our city has expanded and we are now visiting 3 clubs. We have received a warm welcome from both management and the dancers. Trust is building with the staff and dancers.
We believe that every woman matters and is loved by God and deserves to be treated with dignity and respect and not stigmatised by negative labels. Our team of chaplains show care and love through their conversations and offers of support.
