The ARC is a brand new initiative in Stockport that enables children and adults with disabilities or disadvantages to work with farm animals and to grow vegetables, herbs and fruits. Imagine a child happily leading a goat around the field, now imagine that child being blind and enjoying walking a goat around the field. Our Centre enables participants to enjoy a hands-on experience with animals, enjoying that special relationship with our horses, alpacas, goats, chickens and much more.
Why the community needs usThe Centre is a Community Interest Centre that has been designed, built and maintained by local companies and neighbours. We have had over 50 local companies donate equipment and tools to us. In 2012, the neighbours were awarded the "Best street award" for contributing their time and effort to the Centre. We really do believe in the power of the local community getting together to create something special.
Our impact on the communityEven though the ARC is a brand new initiative, it has already began to enhance and improve the quality of lives of our participants. Adults and children with disabilites are learning about farming life as well as enjoying outdoor activities. This has been a unique opportunity for the local community to build a beautiful Centre especially for adults and children with disabilities to enjoy a rural experience.
