Birmingham | Community Support & Development
Ashiana Community Project provides a much needed open access point to a wide range of initial advice, guidance and training services around employment, welfare benefit, immigration & debt problems and local access to childcare . It also delivers a range of health and wellbeing services centred around diet, fitness, mental health and access to green spaces to address entrenched health inequalities. Support is also provided to unpaid carers in need of respite
Why the community needs usYears of austerity has meant that the majority of community advice and training centres serving the most disadvantaged communities have closed. Ashiana Community Project now has to meet increasing demand for its advisory, access-to-employment and health and wellbeing services from local families, including many refugees.
Our impact on the communitySince 1975 we have supported over 125,000 clients and have enabled around 12000 clients to claim £9,000,000 of benefit entitlements. Every year we place around 150 clients into work and provide vocational training & work experience for over 300 people. In the last 3 years we have supported over 1200 unpaid carers and involved over 500 people in community fitness, healthy eating and mental wellbeing activities.
