Assert support adults with Asperger Syndrome or High Functioning Autism and their parents, partners or carers by providing advice, information, resources, education, social inclusion, volunteering opportunities and support to improve well being and reduce isolation. We also seek to raise awareness of the condition, including the many positive aspects. Assert is a member led organisation; both individuals and organisations can become members of Assert and support the work that we undertake.
Why the community needs usAssert are a small charity who are the only organisation locally that provides the range of services that we provide. Asperger syndrome (AS) and High Functioning Autism (HFA) are forms of Autism, a lifelong condition that affects how a person makes sense of the world, processes information and relates to and communicates with others.AS and HFA are hidden conditions, which means that you can't tell that someone has them from their outward appearance.
Our impact on the communityAssert provides the following services; One to one support, Benefits advice and support, Monthly drop in for people with AS/HFA, Monthly mutual support group for parents, partners and carers of people with AS/HFA, One to one support for parents, partners and carers of people with AS/HFA, Social events and social inclusion activities, Resource Library, Liaison with statutory services on behalf of individuals. Any support would help us to provide these services.
