The Association of Sickle Cell sufferers of Yorkshire for Africa and Basic Information (ASYABI) was founded in Leeds in the United Kingdom in June 2008. In 2012 it became a registered charity led by volunteers and people affected by Sickle Cell Anaemia aiming to provide self-support and information, advice and other helps needed to people and their families affected by sickle cell and thalassaemia. Support and advice is provided by telephone, email and through home visits etc.

In Leeds there are more than 95 adults with Sickle Cell Anaemia (SDC) but less than 3 in 40 are willing to present themselves as patients whereby it leads them not to take part to events related to their own condition. ASYABI is currently piloting a programme "Reaching Marginal Communities with Sickle Cell Anaemia in the Yorkshire and in the UK for a Change of Perception". This programme benefits directly patients and families affected by this condition to tackle that stigma.

More patients feel like they are heard throughout the process of this programme in which we facilitate regular experience exchanges among patients in which more experienced sufferers are used to conduct theses face to face meetings with families and very stigmatised patients who seek for more attention and assistance but we lack donations and grants to run this programme properly for a long positive results. Less stress for patients with this condition is known to reduce the rate of their pains.
