Award winning social enterprise, Beacons Creative Wales have designed and produced wax products, hand made by people with learning difficulties, physical disabilities and mental health issues.Historically we have manufactured a range of uniquely chipped candles in 3 styles, 6 colours each with their own fragrance and more recently we have launched a new line of candles and soaps. This process creates meaningful work, broken down into sensory tasks for individuals of differing abilities, creating valued work, for every member of our diverse team.We also produce chipped egg-shaped candles and firelighters using recycled wax, and more recently we have moved towards creating bespoke candles offering our products to everyone from small businesses up to the Royal British legion, still following our mission of involving everyone in the process and providing paid employment where possible.
Beacons offers work experience and supported wok placements for up to 30 individuals from the Brecon area.
Each member of the team is valued and could work in a number of settings, either manufacturing candles or soap in one of our workshops or baking and selling bread in our ethical and environmentally friendly Whole-food shop etc. Whatever the role our service users are supported in all their tasks by qualified members staff.
Beacons provides work for 10 people from the local community in and around the Brecon area. Each staff member whatever their role is also a qualified support worker. Beacons staff provide up to 293 supported work hours for those furthest from the workforce and respite for family and carers.
Although Beacons is part funded by the local authority our long-term survival will depend on revenue generated by sales and finding and utilising other funding streams, such as Local Giving.
