Beckton Skills Cente is committed to advancing the education of disadvantaged young people by developing their technical/vocational, employ ability and life skills, underpinned by high standards of accredited vocational training,nationally recognised qualifications and guided leisure time activities. Many of our learners come to us disenchanted with academic education and our fresh, alternative approach enables them to feel welcome and valued which in turn helps them flourish and succeed.

Many of the young people we encounter have little formal educational qualifications, often they have difficulty with basic skills, have undiagnosed learning deficiencies, coupled with low self-esteem and poor family backgrounds so their chances of sourcing and engaging courses leading to sustainable employment are very low.

Working in small groups we give them individual attention more appropriate to their needs, gently building trust and belief in their abilities and breaking down the barriers to a meaningful career path.We appoint a mentor to help the transition from learning to the workplace. This model has seen increased rates of attention, retention, leading to succeeding at holding down a paid position.
