The group was founded in 1997 to improve the local environment by gardening in public areas. We arrange for hanging baskets on the main roads, we plant and maintain planters, tubs and areas of waste land throughout Beeston and a section of the local park. We liaise with schools, churches, and other community groups. We hold plant sales and offer gardening advice. We enter the Yorkshire in Bloom competition.
Why the community needs us
Beeston is a densely populated inner city area with very little green space. The group seeks to remedy this by introducing colourful planting in hanging baskets, roadside planters, barrier troughs and small areas of waste land and continually maintain the Millennium Garden in Cross Flatts Park. All residents, visitors and people who travel through Beeston benefit from the improved environment.
Our impact on the community
For over 25 years we have introduced greenery and colour all over Beeston, and cleared overgrown, neglected sites. This has led to our success in Leeds in Bloom, Yorkshire in Bloom and even Britain in Bloom. We have provided team-building volunteering opportunities for the business community and National Citizens Service. Our work supplements that done by various Council departments.
