About BEMSCA
For more than 30 years, BEMSCA has provided a vital community hub for older people from Caribbean, Asian, Chinese and other minority ethnic backgrounds across Bath and North East Somerset. Initially began as a luncheon club has grown into a welcoming space where members can meet, socialise, and connect with others who share similar cultural experiences. We also offer guidance on a wide range of health, housing and welfare issues—support that is especially important for those who do not speak English as their first language.
Why the Community Needs Us
We run a day care centre alongside an outreach service for members who are unable to leave their homes due to health conditions or disability. Our team of caseworkers and volunteers works closely with partners across many sectors—including healthcare, legal services, banks, utilities and community organisations—to ensure members receive the information and support they need to make informed decisions about their wellbeing and quality of life.
Our Impact
BEMSCA supports more than 500 members and their families, ensuring the needs and voices of the local Black and Minority Ethnic community are recognised and understood. Demand for our services continues to grow, and we are committed to expanding our work to reach and represent an even broader range of ethnic groups.
