BIASAN has been supporting refugees, asylum seekers and others with immigration status issues in the Bradford area since 1999.
BIASAN Has been welcoming asylum seekers and refugees to Bradford for the last 25 years with support and friendship. We are a community of refugees, asylum seekers and unpaid volunteers, and we receive no regular funding from local or central government. Our members come from all over the world, fleeing war and persecution. Because of the decline in provision in the area, we find ourselves increasingly helping in new ways and developing services for which there is a desperate need. At the moment we are offering the following services:-
weekly drop-ins for women men and children
English classes
creative activities
gym sessions
outings, including annual seaside trip
shared meals
activities for children
guidance and information
support to access specialist services
legal guidance
help with volunteering
sim cards
free haircuts
free clothing for adults and children
equipment for children and babies e.g. nappies and buggies
furniture for people setting up their first home in the UK
The emphasis of everything we do is on the word community. At present we meet every Thursday, currently at Bradford Deaf Centre 25 Hallfield Road Bradford BD1 3RP. Women's Club meet from 1:30 to 3:30, and then the Drop-in from 3:30 to 6:00 PM is open to everybody. Every week there is free hot food available, with cooks from countries all over the world taking it in turns to provide delicious meals. The storage unit which is situated on Rawson Road, behind John Street market operates Monday to Friday. BIASAN was awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary Service in 2021.
