In 2010 the British Sledge Hockey Association and Battle Back started a project funded by Help for Heroes and the Company of Wheelwrights to enable injured service personnel to participate in the sport of Sledge Hockey. The project was an immense success and lead to the formation of Bison in the Community, a community organisation set-up to provide disadvantaged people the opportunity to participate in winter sport related activities.

We provide the opportunity for everyone in the community to take part in winter sport related activities as well as supporting disadvantaged people to enjoy positive social and recreational activities. We will help support talent winter sport athletes, invite those in social isolation to take part in activities, provide opportunities to play winter sports as well as providing advice.

Through Bison in the Community we have provided sledge hockey, schools programmes, the opportunity for social interaction, improved health and lifestyle opportunities and are setting up a hockey team for people with learning disabilities.
