We work with asylum seekers and refugees who have fled for their lives from countries like Syria and Iraq to Britain to seek safety. When they arrive In Bristol they are often alone, know no-one here, they probably don't speak English or have any money, and are left alone to sort out where and how to get help. We offer a place where they will find advice, friendship & practical help - at the Borderlands Drop-in.
Why the community needs usNearly 25% of the asylum seekers and refugees we work with receive NO financial help from anyone except charities. Borderlands volunteers prepare a free hot meal using food donated by local companies and FareShare; we listen and offer help, support and friendship; distribute donated food, toiletries and clothing, and teach English language so that asylum seekers and refugees can live positive lives using their skills and experiences to contribute to the community.
Our impact on the communityEach week we help over 100 people by providing them with services including a free hot meal using donated food, English language classes, distributions of donated clothing, food & toiletries; and additional advice support services including medical support and access to free legal advice on asylum and immigration problems.
