We believe no one should go hungry because of events in their lives like unemployment, old age, illness, poverty or simply because they are a child.  And we believe that people should always have access to food and the dignity of choice about what they eat when so much unwanted food is wasted and goes to landfill every day.
There are local people who can't afford to eat, or have to choose between feeding themselves as well as their children, which means there is genuine hunger in our community and people living stressful hidden lives. We care passionately about our community which is why over 80 amazing local people volunteer to help us every month by collecting on-date/surplus food from supermarkets and charity schemes like Fare Share, and redistributing it locally to ensure no one goes hungry.
We support our registered foodbank members to tackle the underlying causes of their situation, for example, their relationship broke down; they lost their job and they were evicted from where they were living; pensioners living in poverty or single parents 'unable to make ends meet'. We help them access financial advice, employment and support them by working in partnership with other local services e.g. Citizens Advice Bureau, debt management charities, bereavement or mental health support. We also work with other local charities like ShareWear which recycles used clothing and Hope Foodbank.
Using everything we are donated by supermarkets, we try to make our food parcels nutritionally balanced and include some fresh food e.g. milk, cheese, eggs, fruit and vegetables, in addition to cupboards staples such as tins, packets and treats. For babies and small children we also try to provide baby care items including nappies and formula milk.
