Bucks Search & Rescue (BSAR) exists for the moment when someone doesn’t come home.
It might be an elderly person with dementia who has wandered from safety, a missing child, or someone in crisis. When the call comes, often in the middle of the night, our volunteers leave their homes, families, and jobs to begin the search.
We are a specialist volunteer search team supporting Thames Valley Police, trained to locate vulnerable missing people across Buckinghamshire and beyond. Time is critical in these situations, and every hour matters. Our role is to bring skill, structure, and determination to the search, maximising the chances of a safe outcome.
In one operation, a high-risk missing person had been gone for hours in freezing temperatures. Working alongside police teams, BSAR volunteers methodically covered difficult terrain through the night. In the early hours, the individual was found cold, exhausted, but alive. That outcome is why we exist.
Our team is made up entirely of volunteers, people from all walks of life, united by a commitment to help others at their most vulnerable. We train to national standards in search techniques, navigation, first aid, and operational coordination, and we invest in specialist equipment, communications systems, and vehicles to operate in all conditions.
But none of this is funded by government.
Every search we conduct, every hour we train, and every piece of equipment we deploy is funded through donations.
Your support directly enables:
Rapid response, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
Specialist training to improve search effectiveness and safety
Essential equipment such as radios, lighting, and protective kit
The ability to scale up when large searches are needed
When someone is missing, every second counts. Your donation helps bring them home.
