1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence at some time in their lives. In 70% of cases, children are also directly abused. We believe that women and children have the right to live free from violence, abuse and fear. For over 35 years, Birmingham and Solihull Women's Aid has been supporting women and children by providing emergency refuge accommodation, a helpline, drop-in services, counselling, help with criminal and civil legal proceedings, outreach and family support.
Why the community needs usThe economic climate, cuts in Legal Aid and welfare reform, has significantly impacted the number of women seeking our support and their depth of need. 3,497 women sought our help in the last 6 months. 90% were at risk of homelessness and had multiple and complex needs including poverty and debt, and mental health issues. Without specialist support and a safe place to turn for help and advice, women and children stay in violent and dangerous situations.
