Calne is a thriving market town in Mid Wiltshire with population circa 15,000. In recent years the town has grown substantially, and continues to grow, attracting families with young children into the town. Our Scout Group, registered 1st February 1912, has been providing youth leadership for over 100 years. Our Scout Group has grown from strength to strength offering exciting activities for children from 6 to 18 years. Our purpose is simple continue and grow the level of Scouting in our town.
Why the community needs usOur big ambition right now is to raise over £250,000 to improve and extend our Scout Hall, which has been largely untouched since it was opened in 1962. By doing so it will allow us to double the size of the Group to 200 boys and girls. Scouting's benefits extend beyond the activities that the young people get involved in around the town by developing children in providing community activities with focus and a place to interact with their peer group in a safe, structured and purposeful setting.
Our impact on the communitySustainability is a Scouting core value, "try to leave this world a little better than you found it" Lord Baden-Powell. We already have a lasting affect in Calne, but also provide local Art, Drama and Yoga groups as well as the town's Silver Brass Band a home in the Hall. The outcome of this current project with its intended improvements will allow access to Scouting for greater numbers of children and provide townsfolk a larger economic meeting place for more activities.
