Our Bobbies not only fit security equipment to the homes of the elderly but also give safety advice which helps victims feel safe in their own homes again. We offer the same service to non-victims for a small donation. Over the last 10 years we have secured over 35000 homes and we reduce the repeat burglary rate from 9.8% in Cambridgeshire to less than 1% amongst those we have helped. We can also show that because people feel safer in their own homes they remain living independently for longer.

Why the community needs us
Because we work closely with Cambridgeshire Police we are able to identify victims of burglary aged 60+ within 24 hours and offer our security service immediately. We are then able to target crime hot spots in the county and secure the homes of non-victims aged 65+ in the area, thus reducing the likelihood of thieves returning to the vicinity. This not only makes people safer in their own homes but also reduces the fear of crime and enables elderly people to stay in their own homes longer.

Our impact on the community
Our figures show the repeat burglary rate in the county is 12% and where The Bobby Scheme has secured homes the repeat burglary rate is less than 1%. This means vulnerable people are safer in their own homes and we reduce the fear of crime. By helping elderly people remain independent longer we reduce the cost of care and nursing home facilities.
