What do we do?
- We offer confidential counselling for individuals and couples experiencing a wide range of issues. These might include loss, bereavement, anxiety, depression, abuse and relationship problems.
- We provide placements for student counsellors completing a Foundation Degree or higher in counselling and psychotherapy .
- Working in partnership with local churches and other local organizations is very important to us and to this end most of our training events and workshops are open to all.
Why the community needs us. People come to CFM from the whole of the North East. The Lighthouse Centre is situated in Stockton-0n-Tees in an area of high unemployment and social deprivation. Alongside caring services and churches, CFM seeks to help vulnerable and hurting people to engage with life more positively. Our team of counsellors are able to appreciate and understand the individual's emotional, psychological and spiritual needs.
Our impact on the communityFor many people counselling helps the individual to become more confident and gain increased self esteem. In fact after counselling many people are able to engage with life more fully and to achieve in ways they have not thought possible.
Feedback from community workshops suggests that these events are informative, supportive and thought provoking. Relevant training is provided for team members and others who have a desire to improve their listening, communication and caring skills.
CFM brings together Christian Counsellors and therapists. All volunteers are offered regular supervision as well as in house and external training. We can support student counsellors completing a recognised counselling course. All volunteers must be able to embrace the Statement of Faith of the Association of Christian Counsellors (www.acc-uk.org)
