Stanford Le Hope | Community Support & Development
Formed in 1978 to help prevent incidents on the mud banks along Leigh Creek and Hadleigh Ray. The unit is a declared a HM Coastguard and Rescue Facility. Affiliated to Royal Lifesaving Society UK and following their codes of practice, including Safeguarding. They also provide a training session for school aged children which covers part of national curriculum. All patrol members hold a minimum of a First aid qualification.
Why the community needs usThe unique work that our group do, benefits the whole community who visit the beaches at Chalkwell, and surrounding areas. By providing a rescue service we make a difference by giving advice and rescuing those who need rescuing. Due to the tides and currents at the location it can become dangerous for those people who are visitors to the area.
Our impact on the communityWe have recently had an incident in the summer where 2 girls nearly drowned if it hadnt had been for the groups links with the Coastguard the outcome may have been different. We also provide training to youngsters, and this then enables them to use their skills to save lives.
