CPAT is one of four Welsh Archaeological Trusts - our principal object is advancing the education of the public in archaeology. We carry out a wide variety of archaeological projects for public and private sector bodies, including environmental impact assessment, field survey, excavation and heritage interpretation. We employ professional archaeological staff with a wide range of expertise, and provide volunteering opportunities, training, and community engagement programmes.

Why the community needs us

We take the job title of "community archaeologist" very seriously. It means community is at the heart of what we do. We want to tackle the issues that stop people accessing heritage and archaeology, through providing creative and fun events, activities, and resources. Most of CPAT's work is in the Clwyd-Powys area - the county of Powys and the local authority areas in the former county of Clwyd - Denbighshire, Flintshire, Wrexham County Borough and the eastern part of Conwy.

Our impact on the community

As a charitable trust it is one of our core goals to educate and inform the public on the archaeology of Wales, and in doing so, raise awareness of the rich tapestry of heritage and history all around us. That can take traditional forms of bringing visitors to our excavations, visiting schools, giving lectures and talks. We're also going to be working through creative arts, and partnering with community groups, charities, and organisations to bring archaeology to new audiences.
