Craigmillar Literacy Trust has worked with the Craigmillar community to support literacy skills since 1998. We work with children, young people, parents and carers and other adults to achieve our vision that every person is empowered through literacy in the community of Craigmillar. 

We deliver projects that support the development of literacy from birth to adulthood. These projects include Craigmillar Books for Babies for babies and young children and their parents/carers, Craigmillar Stories for Sharing for families with children aged 4 to 9 years and Express Yourself! for children and young people aged 12 to 16 years. 

Our work is relationship and rights-based and is embedded in the community of Craigmillar, Niddrie, Magdalene and Bingham in Edinburgh, Scotland. We work closely in partnership health visitors, speech and language therapists, the local library, early years settings, schools and community groups. 

We believe literacy programmes lay a solid foundation for future learning and child wellbeing. In order to do this, we provide high quality opportunities and resources which otherwise are not available or affordable for families. We celebrate the resources within the community, working collaboratively and creating a sense of pride, value and belonging.
