Coronavirus response - Food and essentials hub - food distribution and local volunteer coordination
As part of our relief work during the Corona Virus outbreak, we are delivering food across Croydon to vulnerable residents and other Foodbanks that are in need. The CVA Resource Centre is operating as a Community Hub - a food and toiletries collection and delivery point. In addition to the incredibly generous number of food donations being made, we are now starting to receive financial donations. We will use the money to buy goods for vulnerable people, pay the travel expenses of our volunteers and support the foodbanks and community groups that are working with us to. Our regular role is to provide funding support, training and information to voluntary groups and social enterprises. We run the local Volunteer Centre, help residents to volunteer and run an ABCD (Asset Based Community Development) project with residents in their neighbourhoods, connecting them with local people/assets. This is why we felt perfectly placed to co-ordinate the Relief effort in such difficult times. Why the community needs us
We would love you to support our direct work with residents! You can allow a person to volunteer by helping us to cover travel expenses, lunch and the cost of inducting them in their chosen role (telephone befriender, driver or involved in the distribution and delivery of food parcels/medicines during the COVID 19 outbreak). Your donations will also help us to put together food parcels to residents/families in need directly and through our partners and local Food banks at this difficult time. Our impact on the community
From the start of the Corona Virus outbreak we have received and are processing 700 applications to volunteer and have verified 185 who are now helping us to deliver food parcels and household supplies across the borough. We also started a befriending telephone line for isolated residents with 50 volunteers at hand to contact them! We are providing immediate support as well as ensuring people remain connected in the longer term.
People can help deliver food parcels or contact isolated people.
