Cwm Penmachno | Community Support & Development
The Shiloh Community Centre is at the heart of Cwm Penmachno, our remote village in North Wales and includes space for meetings, for classes and for social events, as well as housing our Heritage Centre. The building urgently needs a new central heating boiler and a new oil tank, as the existing boiler and tank are at the end of their lifespan, having been in place for over seventeen years. Keeping the centre open is essential to our village as we have no other amenities.
Why the community needs usKeeping the Shiloh centre open is essential to our village as we have no other amenities, and the centre is used several times a week for yoga, Welsh classes, meetings, dance classes, events and entertainment, as well as providing a space that residents can use for their own events. We hold our own music festival in the Shiloh each summer. The centre is maintained to a high standard by the community, with a monthly 'cleaning rota' and a voluntary caretaker.
Our impact on the communityGiven the remote location of the village, and the absence of local services, maintaining a thriving, self-supporting community is essential, and the village is extremely successful in this respect. We recently celebrated ten years of producing our quarterly newsletter, and we have a regular programme of events in the Shiloh, our community centre, which is managed by the Cwm Community Action Group. Without the Shiloh, there would be no social activities in the village.
