da21 is an independent charity. We work cooperatively with local people, communities, businesses, educational bodies, local government and other organisations to encourage sustainable living in Dorset. Our objectives are: (1) To promote sustainable development and the prudent use of natural resources; (2) To advance education and research about sustainable development and the protection of the environment
Why the community needs usda21 supports the development of grassroots action on sustainability and climate change in Dorset. This primarily involves supporting the development of Transition Town and other green groups, those of which are involved in direct projects, such as community orchards, community supported agriculture, and energy efficiency and renewable energy initatives. We also act as an advocate and conduit for this sector, as well as assisting them in obtaining funding for their iniatitives.
Our impact on the communityWe have recently been involved in bringing in partnership with other organisations £960,000 into the West of Dorset to directly support community groups working in the environment and sustainability through a successful application to the BIG Lottery fund. In addition we put on 5 training events, supported 25 environmental organisations directly, and brought in an additional £20,000 in funding during a recent project to build the capacity of environmental groups in Dorset.
