Our aim is to prevent and provide relief from isolation in the elderly through our contact and support. We aim to improve their quality of life by offering one to one befriending support, a programme of group outings and events, and a lunch club which provides lunch, activities and social interaction. We also carry out regular Acts of Worship in Care Homes within the town of Darlington.
Why the community needs us
Often older people become isolated. They no longer have family near by. Some have lost their partners and many of their friends, and their mobility and functioning is impaired by health problems. Our visits, activities and events aim to improve their quality of life.
Our impact on the community
Last year we made over 800 visits to our Friends in their homes, relieving isolation, providing support and encouragement and helping them with practical tasks. Many Friends joined us on our monthly outings, getting them out of their four walls, joining with others in new environments and making new friends. Our lunch club provides a communal lunch and a programme of activities which provide mental stimulation and social interaction.
