To empower the individual to take control of their own mental health and their right to good quality services. To promote well being and offer services conducive to good mental health for all within Derwentside. To safeguard, protect and support vulnerable adults with mental health issues.
Why the community needs usWe are the only independent mental health charity within Derwentside with offices in Consett & Stanley who offer a variety of services including Social Access groups where people can come and support each other with similar problems. We run courses for Confidence, Anxiety, Anger, as well as 1:1 talking & holistic therapies. We provide an essential service to up to 300 people per year with varying degrees of mental ill health, we are the only support for 89 people across both sites.
Our impact on the communityHalf our Executive Committee have mental health problems themselves, volunteers mainly come from past and present service-users, we have 2 service-user reps who speak for the individual who are service-users themselves and cannot voice their complaints etc. We have at least 2 consultations a year with service-users and interested parties to ensure that priorities are met and the service-user voice is heard and listened to. This ensures that services meet the need of the people of Derwentside.
