Our mission is to help vulnerable young people through the provision of comprehensive advice, accommodation and support to gain independence.Doorway's activities are designed to help homeless young people overcome disadvantage and deprivation. At the heart of our organisation's work is an ethos and commitment to work with each young person individually to meet their specific needs.
Why the community needs us
The Government Index of Multiple Deprivation 2015 shows that Nuneaton features 9 areas in the top 10% most deprived communities with 1 ward in Nuneaton featuring within the top 2% nationally. Coming from deprived areas young people have low self esteem and aspirations as well as self-imposed barriers and living independently on a low income is challenging.
Our impact on the community
Key achievements are measured by the difference we make to young people's lives. Below is an extract from a thank you letter showing the vulnerability which is evident when they first come to us. It's a reminder of how far they have progressed and shows us the impact we have made on their lives: "Living independently is very scary & confusing for anyone; let alone young people who have had a hard time. A lot of people wouldn't have come as far as they have today if Doorway wasn't around"
