The Dorset Blind Association is a local charity providing services, support and advice to visually impaired people throughout Dorset. Our aim is simple - to ensure that everything we do is geared towards helping to make life better for visually impaired people in Dorset

Why the community needs us

We focus on delivering practical services directly into the community to make sure that these are as accessible as possible to service users and while the sight loss condition itself sadly cannot be cured, the charity works to stop that sight loss from causing or leading to other physical or mental health problems. As part of this we encourage people with sight loss to take a proactive role in keeping themselves active and healthy and we support the ethos of self management of sight loss.

Our impact on the community

Dorset Blind Association helps around 1000 people with sight loss every month, enabling them to lead healthy, independent and active lives. More than 750 people a year are supported by the Community Support Service and over 1600 people benefit from reassurance and support at the Help Desk in the Eye Unit. Many people also benefit from our social clubs. Our service makes a huge difference to our members; improving their confidence and self esteem as well as helping them to feel less isolated.
