To advance the study of ornithology and public education in ornithology and related matters. Help people become involved with the conservation, study and survey of county Durhams birds.

Why the community needs us

We cater for all levels, from the absolute beginner to the dedicated twitcher, from the family to the serious scientist. The Club is ultimately built upon the skill and commitment of its most valuable resource, its membership. People will be the key to our future success and by your input we hope that even more expectations and demands can be met. The Club has become directly involved in species and habitat conservation and linked with this is an active Projects and Surveys Group.

Our impact on the community

We are involved in local and national research projects, we support and advise other conservation organisations, carry out a guided walks programme, talks, indoor meetings and a range of voluntary works. We are in a unique situation of manageing a very important wetland Castle Lake. The local and wider community get an insight into the importance of wetlands, their management and value. Many who vist and volunteer are directly impacted by the abundance of life and the need to return.
