We provide a space for LGBTQ teenagers to be themselves, make friends with other LGBTQ young people, have fun, try new things, meet friends and learn to get along in the world; to act the way they want outside of the constraints of school and family and explore different behaviours in settings that feel safe and welcoming. We support young people in a natural way, through voluntary engagement, offering 'a shoulder to cry on' when needed and sharing highs and lows.
Why are youth groups for young LGBTQ+ people are needed?
Coming Out as lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans (transgender or non-binary/gender fluid etc) can be a difficult and dangerous process for some young people. Young LGBTQ+ people can experience bullying at school and rejection by their family because of their gender identity or sexual orientation. This leads to them being isolated, which can be heightened further by living in a rural county, and increases the risk of them having poor mental health. Self harming and self medicating
How can you support Xplore?
With the help of your donation our sessions can continue to provide provide young people with a safe, age-appropriate space to meet other young LGBTQ people without fear of harassment or discrimination because of their sexual orientation or gender identity and to participate in entertaining and life-enhancing activities. Also the ability to access appropriate guidance and information and be signposted to sources of advice and more intensive or specialist support.
