CARDIFF | Community Support & Development
We are a community group with the aim of making Ely a safer and better place to live. We organise football and baseball sessions with the aim of keeping young children and youths off the streets and away from crime and drugs. We also organise events, such as the Elympics and firework displays on bonfire night. We have made a massive difference with antisocial behaviour, and have been commended by South Wales Police for our work, as well as winning several voluntary sector awards.
Why the community needs usWe feel our community has benefitted greatly since our group formed, not only did we save our only recreation field we've also held many free fun day events bringing our community together. We have also formed youth football teams to give young people a goal and hopefully keeping them from the temptation of crime and drugs. Our firework displays have dramaticlly reduced the level of antisocial behaviour normaly associated with the 5th of November which is also a free event.
Our impact on the communityOur events are always well attended with over 3000 people attending our firework display and by carrying out organised litter picks with children we have given them a sense of ownership for our recreation field respecting it rather than vandalising it. We have improved social inclusion by involving anybody who wants to be involved. We also have a page on our website, Cleaning Up Ely, we get regular emails from residents with concerns about fly tipping which we deal with.
