Embercombe inspires people to actively contribute to the emergence of a world that is peaceful, just and sustainable. Embercombe also offers an apprenticeship which is a one year leadership programme for people who imagine a life of making a difference. It is an adventure and quite tough at times. Apprentices discover that walking the 'twin trail' of leadership is never easy, sometimes frightening, frequently testing, and ultimately rewarding.

Why the community needs us

We are undertaking a trip to Calais to the migrant camp which houses some 2 or 3 thousand men, women and children, with little in the way of basic provision of adequate food, water, sanitation, healthcare or education. Some migrants are searching for a better life and some are fleeing danger, violence and persecution in war-torn countries. We'd like to take donations of food, clothes, blankets, tents and toys and we are also appealing for help with our costs to travel to Calais and back.

Our impact on the community

We aim to deliver basic provisions along with songs, play, companionship and a witnessing of the struggles faced by people there. We would like to also use the opportunity to highlight the waste food crisis by taking waste and skipped food to a place these mis-managed resources can be of most use; to those in very urgent and direct need. In an effort to raise awareness and honour the stories of those we meet we plan to host an event where we will share our experiences on return.
