Our objectives are:
1.To provide a community centre which will make available a wide range of Community facilities for the use of The Irish Community and people from Northfields and Greater Humberstone. 2.To create an environment where the various ethnic minority groups within the locality can work together to foster better community relations 3.To provide a focal point within the community for individuals, particularly those from excluded and disadvantaged groups. 4.To provide an advice and guidance centre.
Why the community needs us
The Emerald Centre's primary role is to meet the needs of the Irish community in Leicestershire and the local community, particularly those people who are most in need. The centre is the community hub with a licensed bar offering excellent sport and social activities including training and community development programmes.
Our impact on the community
250 plus people attend weekly. We deliver recreational, educational, and social activities. This includes a befriending scheme supporting vulnerable elders, reducing isolation and re-integrating them into mainstream provision. Members report that they feel better for participating in the activities, experiencing better health as a result of exercise or from learning about health issues and healthy eating. Feedback from some of our members: "I don't know what I would do without the Centre".
