Emmaus Leeds provides home and work experience in a community setting for those who are without a home. Those who join us become 'companions' - using their skills within our social enterprise to help sustain and grow the charity. Our work is in reusing and recycling household items that people no longer need. We run a large retail outlets where these items are sold. Emmaus Leeds also encourages companions to help other people and organisations who are in greater need, both in our local community and overseas.
Why the community needs us
Emmaus Leeds benefits the local community in many ways. We provide opportunities for homeless people in our city to regain their lives and help others. We provide low cost furniture and household items through our retail outlet. We reduce the amount of waste going to landfill by collecting unwanted items and giving them a new lease of life.
Our impact on the community
Emmaus Leeds provides an alternative to homelessness and social exclusion. We save hundreds of tonnes of goods going to landfill each year. Companions sign off job seekers allowance when they join the community, therefore making savings to the tax payer.
