Fife Young Carers provides a range of support, information and respite to 60-70 carers a week aged between 8 and 18.In addition to this they raise awareness of young carers and give them a voice to ensure they do not fall through the net and become isolated. They run a focus group to review young carers services which is supplemented by seeking young carer's views via their website, Facebook and Twitter. Their numbers are continuing to increase with 175 young carers currently being supported
Why the community needs usYoung Carers often miss out on opportunites that their peers take for granted, such as spending time with friends or trying new challenges. Fife Young Carers gives young carers the chance to be a child first and foremost by allowing them to experience new activities and spend time with their peers. Our Support Workers offer advocacy, advice and information to help minimise the impact of their caring roles and allow young carers to reach their potential.
Our impact on the communityFife Young Carers improves the confidence and self-esteem of young carers who attend our support groups as well as helping them with life skills. Most importantly the children and young people say they love attending our service and feel safe and supported. Young Carers through our focus group have been empowered in the development of a new strategy for young carers in Fife. By delivering awareness sessions to school pupils we have improved awareness of young carers issues with their peers.
