Fix It UK Ltd enables young people from Wigan and surrounding areas to meet the opportunities and responsibilities of society today, by offering them training in motor vehicle studies and personal development programmes that build confidence, motivation and personal, social and life skills.
Why the community needs usWigan ranks within the top 10% most deprived in terms of multiple deprivation. It has high levels of long-term unemployment, benefits claimants, low skills/attainment, high levels of anti-social/offending behaviour, and youth unemployment. Our beneficiaries lack positive role models and have grown up in households where worklessness is the norm. Our project improves the life chances of young people, by raising their aspirations and introducing them to new activities.
Our impact on the communityIn 2011 we successfully supported 38 school leavers to access college and continue their studies. 20 students have secured full time employment and been accepted onto college apprenticeship schemes. One student has secured a placement with a Renault Franchise and is studying at Renault's own apprentice training facility. He is our first student to be employed by an international vehicle manufacturer; another student has started his own business in vehicle salvage and repair locally.
