Working for a brand new play park for Montgomery

About us

The current play provision in Montgomery is outdated with some elements being over 40 years old; it has limited equipment, capacity and variety. Community consultation showed that there is a real need for a new facility; in a survey with 117 responses 91% said that the current park needed improvement and 75% stated that the equipment was not considered adequate.

Friends of Montgomery Play Park is a constituted, volunteer, community group that has a team of local people, working hard to try and source funding. The funding will support a new, bespoke and imaginative play park at one end of a recreational field, near the town centre in Montgomery for the benefit of local families.

The proposed scheme offers significantly enhanced physical play opportunities with a responsible and positive approach in managing risk whilst being inclusive to all abilities and ages - from toddlers to teenagers.

The proposed park will comprise: earthworks and wooden structures such as towers, huts, log tangles, rope nets and stilts to facilitate exciting, social and dynamic play opportunities alongside, slides, a zip wire and swings (including a cantilever basket swing). The play park proposal has been quoted to cost approximately £140,000; we have applied to the National Lottery for the majority of the costs and have also identified some other funding opportunities which we are working on. However we are still relying on community fundraising to be able to afford all of the exciting pieces of equipment in the proposal such as the trebuchet basket swing (£9,500).
