We bring old & young people together to share knowledge, skills & time & have fun.
We want to see a United Kingdom where communities value the assets they have in younger and older people and they share time together, have fun, learn from and value each other.
OUR MISSION
To create sustainable programmes to support and inspire young and older members of local communities by bringing them together to cooperate, have fun and learn from each other.
To achieve our mission
** we build links between old and young people in local communities to
** provide solutions to local problems
** allow them to get to know each other better
** share their skills and knowledge in local communities
** share places and spaces to do this
** ensure no one's talents are wasted.
Why the community needs us Two sections of our local communities are being increasingly challenged:
- The services for children & young people are expected to continuously improve the education and other opportunities for young people so they can achieve better numeracy and literacy results, sports , musical and social and psychological well being, despite increasing class sizes and constrained budgets.
- Older people are living longer, often without close family nearby, and the social care budget is growing larger and larger. They represent an untapped resource or skills and knowledge for all services for children and young people in our communities but by and large they are ignored , seen as a burden themselves or undervalued.
These two groups are often competing for scarcer resources in order to meet these challenges. Our school programme provides a local approach for these two groups to work together. It successfully contributes to providing solutions to reduce the stress on school and social care resources and enhance the lives of the teaching staff, pupils and older people.
- Under performance & low aspirations of children and young people
- Loneliness and isolation of older people
- Lack of flexible part-time jobs for retired people
- Lack of local opportunities for the two groups to collaborate
- Hostile intergenerational stereotypes
