There's a lot of learning but it's done through activities - on the water and off the water. It's a break from screens and being cooped up inside. The platform we offer is built on the customs and traditions of the Royal Navy. It inspires our work and commitment to supporting young people today. Teenagers meet other cadets at events around the UK, and on trips abroad. They get comfortable with meeting people from different places and backgrounds, and confident in dealing with new situations, which can make going out into the world so much easier later on. Our friendly, trained volunteers - some from a naval background, many not - are role models for cadets, looking out for them. Sea Cadets is not about having orders barked at you, many cadets want to learn to be a bit more self-disciplined, and our volunteers will help with that and make it fun. They also help young people to try things they've never done before safely, supporting them to experience life enhancing experiences. .
Why the community needs us
Too many young people are going into an adult world under-equipped with the resilience, self-belief and social confidence they need to make a decent life for themselves. Sea Cadets has the skills to change this. We change how they hold themselves, welcome new people, and support each other. They do better at school and increase their prospects of getting a job.They can overcome challenges more confidently and tthey are valued in the community where they live.
Our impact on the community
The world moves so fast today, and the change can be exhilarating and life-opening, but also terrifying. Opportunities follow change, but standing out from everyone else competing for them means making sure you have the very things that makes meeting a cadet memorable; Confidence composure, knowing how to listen, speak and present yourself in new situations, leadership, motivation, organisation, and bounce!!
