The Havens Community Hub creates projects to meet unmet community need and runs a small community centre in Denton, nr Newhaven, East Sussex to support residents living between Saltdean and Seaford (The Havens) and the surrounding areas.
We support other local good causes, charities and individual campaigners to become sustainable - in many cases, helping to prevent closure - and partner with other organisations to best offer community services.
Our current projects include the Havens Food Cooperative and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
The Food Cooperative is partnered with 18 local supermarkets to prevent food waste of 'best before' items with a network of 35 volunteers who rapidly redistribute items 364 days a year! We prevent over 3 tons of edible perishable produce from reaching landfill each week.
We launched the Havens Community Cars project in August 2019 which became a separately registered charity with over 600 members and 25 volunteer community drivers, providing hundreds of journeys each month for people unable to use public transport, helping them reach medical and social appointments.
Our Happy Clubs provide social interaction and activities for older people with complex needs - preventing isolation and loneliness. Now an independent charity, they operate three days per week - Tuesday in Peacehaven, Wednesday in Newhaven and Thursday in Seaford.
