The BIG Challenge

The Big Challenge is a non-stop challenge to cover the distance from the Moor lane ground to Lords cricket ground, the spiritual home of cricket, and back! All members and their family and friends are participating in the challenge which will start at 6pm on 17th June and will finish 6pm 19th June. Your donation, no matter how big or small is gratefully received by the club as we near ever closer to be able to build a pavilion which will be used by all within the Hawarden community. You can donate now at the top of this page by clicking the 'donate now' button.

Five years ago we were required to move to a new ground and in that time we have completed a huge amount of work to provide a brilliant training and playing capability. However we could not move our old pavilion and are currently operating out of porta-cabins which are barely fit for purpose. The Covid pandemic created a two year hiatus and unfortunately for us a large increase in the cost of building materials. In consultation with our targeted funding sources we went back to the drawing board and redesigned the build. Planning permission has now been granted and we are in the process of actioning the final few technical reports on the building before going out to tender with the building community.
There is a strong requirement on the club to raise a significant portion of the cost our target being £200,000, which we hope to partially achieve by achieving charitable status to alleviate any VAT costs on the project. We are now in the process of raising our additional contribution by hosting fund raisers, completing challenges and local support. The new pavilion is designed to be suitable for all cricketing needs whilst being open to use by community groups, schools and local businesses. The club has been recognised in a National Survey as in need of investment and are in close consultation with the ECB, Sports Wales and Cricket Wales and are confident of significant support towards the final costs

Why the community needs us
The erection of a proper pavilion will be the final step in providing a safe, pleasant and functional environment for use by all members of the community across a wide range of interests and hobbies.

Our impact on the community
The club currently has over 100 hundred juniors involved in cricket activities, and through hosting school sports days we engage with a further 600 children and their parents/guardians, this ability to influence large groups from the local community will only increase with the construction of a pavilion. Currently our provision of toilet and showering facilities is unsatisfactory and we do not want to discourage visitors because of less than attractive facilities.
