We provide free holidays and breaks to disabled children and young people and provide respite to their families. Our Charity will have 60 years experience in 2022 and our child care has been accredited as Outstanding by Ofsted.
In Wirral and Somerset we produce a week long camp for around disabled 30 children, aged between 9-16. This requires a 1:1 ratio of volunteers providing 24 hour care and support and one camp can cost us £30,000 as we ensure that the places are free to the children.
Why the community needs us
Our charity has provided holidays for disabled children since 1962. We provide Outstanding care 24 hours and accept a wide range of disabilities; we also ensure the children experience new challenges and activities. In recent years this has included bush skills, a music festival, climbing, kayaking and even flying a plane! We aim to give the children the holiday of a lifetime and their carers a well earned rest but ideally we want to inspire independence and confidence.
Our impact on the community
Each camp helps around 30 children and our charity is hoping to grow even further. In 2021 we supported 50 children at two camps, created virtual activities and a books and reached even more to have a positive impact on their lives and those of carers and families.
Over the years we have supported over a thousand children, but with greater financial support we will help more.
Our Charity also has a great impact in the lives of the volunteers who come to us at all ages and a diverse range of skills and experiences. Working with young people at our camp has provided a great influence on the careers and personal lives of as many volunteers as the children we care for.
