A High Sheriff is appointed each year by Her Majesty at a meeting of the Privvy Council. The Office of High Sheriff is over 1,000 years old and the key elements of the role are supporting those who administer law and order to the country. The High Sheriff's Award Scheme was established in Cambridgeshire over 10 years ago to support charitable work. It recognises achievement and give grants of up to £500 to projects involving young people in positive activities which benefit the community.
Why the community needs usThe Awards scheme offers young people's projects access to vital financial support. Relatively modest sums can bring projects to life and enable young people to participate in positive activities that benefit both themselves and their communities. To cover the costs of managing and distributing the Fund, CCF retains 10% (this includes the Localgiving 3% commission) of donations received into the Fund.
Our impact on the communityFeedback from previous grants demonstrates the value of the award scheme. For example SPICE Guides, a Guiding group for girls with disabilities received a grant for a social event. The event was particularly enjoyed by twins with Cerebral Palsy who had never been able to attend Guides before. The annual awards ceremony gives young people an opportunity to be recognised for their achievements in front of an audience including local dignitaries, donors to the scheme and local press.
