Being a parent is very rewarding. But at times, it can seem overwhelming.

Home-Start Berkshire East (HSBE) supports local families with children under five who are going through difficult times. Our specially-trained volunteers are a lifeline, providing friendship, help and practical support to families suffering from stress and crisis. This includes mental health issues, physical or mental disability, deprivation, family breakdown, single parenting, multiple births, abuse and neglect.

It is estimated that up to 600 families in the Slough, Windsor, Maidenhead and Burnham area need the charity’s help and this number is expected to increase over the next five years.
Three of Slough’s 14 wards are still amongst the most deprived in the south east.

We do not receive any government funding and depend entirely on grants and donations to fund our vital work.

It costs around £234,000 a year to run our scheme and recruit and train volunteers to provide home-based support for vulnerable and struggling families.

Please make a donation today to help us continue supporting local families. Very often, we’re the last chance they have.

Our impact on the community
In 2023, our volunteers provided non-judgemental, life-changing support to nearly 430 vulnerable families in the local area. We have given parents the confidence and skills they need to cope with their daily lives and enabled children to grow up in a happy and stable environment.

We are the biggest local voluntary organisation that recruits and trains volunteers to provide a helping hand and a listening ear to struggling families with children under five.
