Hope In Unity provides a unique service to Black elders in the community who are vulnerable, lonely and socially isolated. We are committed to providing a bespoke and culturally supportive service to Black elders, helping to change attitudes and behaviours.
We will continue to strive to reduce social isolation and improve quality of life by providing practical help and support in promoting the benefits of learning new skills to enhance cognitive thinking and improve mental, physical, and emotional health and well-being.
In times of austerity the need to protect Black elders who feel marginalised is even greater. The service we provide is pivotal to their mental and social well-being. As our main service, we provide a lunch that meets their specific dietary and cultural needs. We also provide a variety of activities, including Mosaic design, Chair-based exercise and Candle-making, to name a few.
Hope in Unity is service-user led. All activities undertaken are decided by a voting system, allowing the elders to have a voice in how the service is shaped to meet their specific needs. It is important that we continue to reduce social isolation and improve quality of life for all those who access Hope in Unity.
