We are a community-based grassroots football club and charity within the community of Horden, County Durham, SR8 4LH. The community of Horden has experienced significant social and economic problems, with the village now being in the top 3% of the most deprived areas in England and Wales.
23.2% of children under 16 living in families with absolute low income (poverty) in Horden compared with 15.3% nationally. The community-based football club was established in 2017, in response to local demand within the community of Horden. Historically, football teams have played on the welfare park for nearly 100 years and it is vitally important to continue with providing the community with a football ground and football training facilities to encourage, children, youth and adults to participate in physical activities and exercise. It will improve opportunities for those participating to be part of “our football community” within Horden either through physical exercise, improving health and well-being, community football participation or through active community engagement e.g. volunteering.
We currently have one team within the Northern League Division 2 (adults), a Women's Football Team and 8 Junior Academy teams (6-to-13-year olds)
We provide football training and coaching for children, young people and adults within our community using community-based facilities e.g. football ground, changing rooms, community area with kitchen facilities on match days and we have access to an additional field used for training purposes which has floodlights (ideal for use on dark evenings). The men and women's team train at least once a week during the season and we hold competitive league and cup fixtures on a Saturday or mid-week. The Junior Academy teams train twice a week on a Tuesday and Thursday evening.
The community football club has 30+ adult men, 30+ adult women and 90+ school aged children (registered) participating in regular football training, coaching and physical exercise activities in Horden.
The community football club in Horden relies on the recruitment of players and participants from children, young people and adults residing within the Horden community and also from the wider community.
The community-based football club provides all participants with a sense of community, something they want to belong to, to aspire, to achieve, to be part of a team, to take pride in what they do when they represent the local community within Horden. As a club we take pride in representing our community.
We are actively promoting the community football club within Horden to engage children, young people, girls, boys, adults, ladies and men to participate in physical sport and activities through football.
