Belfast | Human Rights
A coalition of civil society organisations working together to promote and protect human rights in Northern Ireland.
Our coalition operates to raise awareness and promote the values of human rights in Northern Ireland with a particular focus on the development of a Bill of Rights. We aim to develop understanding, communication, cooperation and campaigning opportunities on human rights issues between members of the Consortium, civil society and the public generally. In our day to day activities we try to achieve these objectives through research, training, awareness raising and advocacy.
Why the community needs us
The Consortium provides a coherent, unified, non-party political coalition for civic society groups to develop the recognition, respect, protection and implementation of human rights standards in Northern Ireland. One of the main ways we do this is by providing a platform for civil society groups to work together to achieve this aim through collaboration across different sectors, communities and regions.
Our impact on the community
Through our work, the Human Rights Consortium has helped foster a stronger, more informed civil society in Northern Ireland. By supporting collaboration across diverse groups, we’ve enabled communities to speak with a united voice on human rights issues. Our campaigns have raised public awareness, influenced policy discussions, and empowered individuals and organisations to advocate for a fairer, more inclusive society.
We’ve provided training and resources to grassroots groups, facilitated dialogue between communities, and championed the development of a Northern Ireland Bill of Rights. Our efforts have contributed to a growing culture of human rights awareness and activism, helping to ensure that the values of dignity, equality and justice are upheld for everyone.
