Our purpose is to support local people, and to inspire you to achieve...

Through the Lighthouse Project, your local community hub, our vision is to inspire and encourage people to achieve and release their potential in a sustained way. We encourage people to help people and we inspire individuals to break down barriers that limit their progress. We help people learn new skills and interests in settings that are caring, social and educational. Our door is open to anyone and we cater for all ages and backgrounds.

Why the community needs us
The Lighthouse Project typically averages over 28,000 visits a year from local people who needed help and support that is not available elsewhere. Our visitors come for many reasons and needs such as, to job hunt, find work, learn internet & computer skills, set up CV's, apply for benefits, make friends, attend health & social activities, learn how to cook, make cards, paint & much more. In these challenging times we definitely make a difference, & we are a lifeline of support for many of our visitors.

We have our own additional 'wrap-around' services such as Lighthouse Money Advice, which helps people with debts and financial issues, and the Lighthouse Pantry, and Middleton Central Foodbank which both help people experiencing food poverty, or food crisis.

In addition we also draw help and support from other organisations who provide regular drop-in services that visitors can access. This makes us a true 'community hub' where visitors can access multiple services in one friendly and safe location.

Our impact on the community
We average over 120 visitors per day, some days twice that amount. We've helped 1000's of people set up CV's and email accounts. We run and host weekly and monthly courses and activities; including a work club, basic computer courses, social and leisure groups, art, textiles & painting, card making, photography, dads play group, veterans group, council benefits advice, volunteer advocacy, knitting group, cooking classes, CV workshop, health and wellbeing courses, Word and Excel workshops, etc.

Volunteers needed

We are regularly looking for volunteers, in all kinds or roles, to help with the day-to-day running of the Lighthouse, including reception, coffee bar, general support using computers, employability skills, crafts and leisure activities, cleaning, odd-jobs, etc. Please get in touch for more details, and help us to inspire and support people to improve themselves. By getting involved you will be helping Inspire Middleton be the place where people care about their local area.
