Founded in 1995 in Chelmsford, InterAct supports children and young people aged 8-25 with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) as well as the families and communities who support them. They face disadvantages such as autism, learning difficulties and sensory or physical impairments.

InterAct offers a regular programme of social and recreational experiences to enrich the lives of children and young people with SEND.

Activities are designed to be both enjoyable and interesting; crafts, music, cookery, and health and wellbeing to name a few. Giving children and young people an opportunity to share interests and connect with others of a similar age, whilst learning new skills and benefitting from a full and active lifestyle. Helping children and young people to forge lasting friendships, develop new skills and integrate into mainstream life.

We also promote positive mental health - reducing stigma through education, and increasing support in communities.

Supported by our amazing volunteers we strive for a community where people of all abilities experience respect, acceptance and inclusion - where differences are celebrated. Allowing every individual to contribute in their own way and reach their full potential, becoming valued members of the community.

We are driven by our mission to create opportunities that empower individuals with greater choice, enabling them to make informed decisions about their lives. We work to support their full participation in the community, helping them achieve their highest potential while fostering greater independence.

InterAct's strength lies in our team's lived experience with disability and neurodiversity, coupled with our deep understanding of the challenges faced by young people and their families during crucial transitions. Our dedicated youth work team, with experience in a range of educational and SEND settings, build strong trust and rapport with beneficiaries, delivering impactful programs including community-based clubs and holiday activity days.
