We provide exciting adventure activities such as sailing, kayaking, orienteering, drill, climbing and trekking which aim to develop social skills and responsibility in cadets. While teaching discipline and respect, we help the cadets build confidence in their own abilities as they learn to work as part of a team. Our qualified instructors (all volunteers, DBS checked and safeguard trained) offer guidance to the young cadets so that they can flourish in challenging environments safely.

Why the community needs us

Keighley has a large deprived area and some of our cadets are from disadvantaged backgrounds. Anti-social behaviour in the Keighley area is a huge problem and a drain on resources for our local over stretched policing teams and council. Government research identifies that one of the main factors of anti-social behaviour was the lack of respect for other people and home office research reported that the reasons for anti-social behaviour. Our organisation helps to tackle this local problem

Our impact on the community

The training we offer is based around discipline and respect, and the cadets develop through our training new self-confidence and self-respect enabling them to channel their energy into positive life changing experiences moving them away from negative outside influences. Keighley unit is currently of Burgee Standard (highly rated) and one of the best in the West Yorkshire District. The success is down to our committed Command Team who dedicate their personal time and effort to help the cadets.
